A SUPER new apple rated the best in half a century will be introduced to the Australian industry next year.

The variety Plumac is being control released world-wide with fruit selling under the registered apple brand Koru(R) by McGrath Nurseries from the Waikato district in New Zealand. 

“This is an incredibly rare and exciting event. It’s the best global apple since Gala in the early 1960s,” said Andy McGrath who with his wife Sandi operates one of the biggest fruit tree nurseries in the country, specialising in apples, cherries and apricots. Mr McGrath, who travels the world in search of superior new fruit varieties, is now commercialising a home-grown stray. He showed off his latest pride and joy to delegates attending the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists 2015 World Congress in nearby Hamilton in November... Read more
